Focus and Scope

Archives of Mechanics provides a forum for original research on mechanics of solids, fluids and discrete systems, including the development of mathematical methods for solving mechanical problems. The journal encompasses all aspects of the field, with the emphasis placed on:

  • mechanics of materials: elasticity, plasticity, time-dependent phenomena, phase transformation, damage, fracture; physical and experimental foundations, micromechanics, thermodynamics, instabilities;
  • methods and problems in continuum mechanics: general theory and novel applications, thermomechanics, structural analysis, porous media, contact problems;
  • dynamics of material systems;
  • fluid flows and interactions with solids.

Papers published in the Archives should contain original contributions dealing with theoretical, experimental, or numerical aspects of mechanical problems listed above.

The journal publishes also current announcements and information about important scientific events of possible interest to its readers, like conferences, congresses, symposia, work-shops, courses, etc.

Occasionally, special issues of the journal may be devoted to publication of all or selected papers presented at international conferences or other scientific meetings. However, all papers intended for such an issue are subjected to the usual reviewing and acceptance procedure.

Peer Review Process

Each paper published in the journal is subjected to an anonymous peer-review procedure and evaluated at least by two independent reviewers from outside the author's affiliation. Reviewers are asked to provide their opinion and recommendation within four weeks. The reviews constitute the basis for the decision of the Editorial Committee to publish (or not) the paper.

Open Access Policy

Archives of Mechanics provides immediate open access to its content on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge.

By default, the papers are published under the CC BY 4.0 (Attribution) license (http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/) so that the authors (or their employers, if applicable) retain the copyright to their articles.

No article processing fee is charged to the authors (so-called Diamond Open Access).

The open access licensing applies to the papers published after mid-2022 (volume 74, issue 4). Full texts of the papers published since 1996 (volume 48) are freely available online.

The authors are allowed (and encouraged) to deposit the published version (Version of Record) of their paper in an institutional or other repository.

Subscription to the hard copies of the journal is possible (and encouraged) and is subject to a subscription fee.
